He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of the first King Peter in television, in the iconic adaptation of “The Adventures of Peter Rabbit” (Sítio do Picapau Amarelo).

David José’s passing was confirmed by his press office. He had been battling Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a progressive condition characterized by inflammation and damage to the lungs and airways, leading to breathing difficulties.

The diagnosis of COPD was made in 2017. This condition is frequently associated with prolonged exposure to cigarette smoke and other irritants. David José’s career began at a young age, starting at the age of 12 in the Teatro Escola of São Paulo.

His breakthrough role came at 13 years old, when he was cast as King Peter in the first television adaptation of “The Adventures of Peter Rabbit,” which aired on TV Tupi between 1955 and 1959. He remains a beloved figure in Brazilian children’s television.

David José is survived by his wife, psychologist Lígia Todescan Lessa Mattos, and his children Paulo and Luiz, as well as his grandchildren Pedro and Gabriela. A private funeral will be held in São Paulo on Tuesday (7th), from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
